Korean grammar · Level 2

-기로 하다

Quick answer: -기로 하다 means to decide to — the decision, usually made together.

How to form it

Verb stem + 기로 하다 · usually said as -기로 했어요 (decided to)

In Korean: 동사 어간 + 기로 하다 보통 -기로 했어요로 씁니다

What to know

Note the past tense. 하기로 했어요 is about the future — the party has not happened — but Korean puts the past on 하다 because the deciding is what is finished. 하기로 해요 in the present is a suggestion: «let us decide to do it».
