Account Information
When you create an account, we collect your email address, display name, selected interface language, learning level, and optionally a profile photo.
Learning Data
As you use HanDa, we collect:
- Conversations with AI tutors
- Pronunciation recordings, transcripts, and assessment scores
- Learning progress, XP, streaks, level data, and saved corrections
- Session history, usage patterns, and feature interactions
Payment Information
Subscription payments are handled by Apple, Google, RevenueCat, Stripe, or another payment provider. We do not store your credit card numbers or banking details. We store only the information needed to validate your subscription status, plan type, purchase history, and entitlement.
Store Purchases & Downloads
When you buy a textbook or other download from the HanDa Store, we keep a record of the order: your email address, the item, the amount, the time of payment, and your acceptance of the store terms at checkout.
Each time you use a download link, we may record the time, IP address, country, browser, and device type. We use this to deliver files, handle refunds and payment disputes, prevent fraud, and protect paid materials from public sharing.
Website Analytics
On handakorean.com, we use analytics tools such as Google Analytics, Microsoft Clarity, and Cloudflare Web Analytics to understand traffic, page performance, referrals, and site usability. These tools may collect device, browser, referrer, page-view, interaction, and approximate location data.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to provide and improve the HanDa service:
- Personalized learning - adapting AI responses to your level and tracking your progress
- Service improvement - analyzing usage patterns to improve our AI tutors and features
- Communication - sending account emails, weekly learning reports, and study reminders
- Support - responding to your questions and resolving issues
- Security and fraud prevention - protecting accounts, payments, downloads, and platform integrity
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your learning conversations for third-party advertising.
4. Third-Party Services
To provide our service, HanDa works with trusted third-party partners. These partners process data only as necessary to deliver our service and are bound by confidentiality obligations.
Categories of third-party services we use:
- AI & machine learning - powers tutors, content generation, correction, and learning analysis
- Cloud infrastructure - hosting, API processing, content delivery, and security
- Authentication & database - secure account management and data storage
- Payment processing - subscription billing, store checkout, and purchase validation
- Voice & speech technology - transcription, pronunciation assessment, and audio generation
- Email and push delivery - account emails, reports, reminders, and notifications
- Analytics - website analytics, session replay, performance measurement, and product improvement
- Community - optional Discord account linking and community features
The AI and speech providers that receive your learning content are:
- Anthropic (Claude) - AI tutor replies, lessons made from material you upload in Studio, and grading of written answers
- OpenAI - the teacher's spoken voice, speech-to-text, and some voice conversations
- Cloudflare (Workers AI) - speech-to-text for your recordings and spoken answers
- Microsoft Azure - pronunciation scoring
Studio (your own material). When you make a lesson in Studio, the text you paste, the photo you take, or the text of your recording is sent to Anthropic to build the lesson. HanDa does not store that original material: a photo is kept only until the lesson is made and then deleted, and only the lesson made from your material is saved to your account. You are asked for consent in the app before anything is sent, and you can delete a lesson at any time.
Each partner processes data in accordance with its own privacy policy and applicable data protection laws.
5. Data Storage & Security
Your data is stored in secure cloud infrastructure with encryption in transit (HTTPS) and access controls designed so users can access only their own data. API keys and credentials are never intentionally exposed to the client.
We retain your learning data for as long as your account remains active. Upon account deletion, your personal account data is removed or anonymized within 30 days unless we need to keep limited records for legal, tax, security, or dispute purposes.
Store order and download records are kept for as long as we need them for tax, accounting, refunds, fraud prevention, and payment disputes, generally up to six years where required for business records.
6. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate data
- Request deletion of your account and associated data
- Export your learning history where technically available
- Opt out of marketing and re-engagement emails at any time

The HanDa app uses local storage needed for sign-in, session management, and app functionality. Our public website uses Google Analytics, Microsoft Clarity, and Cloudflare Web Analytics to understand how visitors use the site. These services may set cookies or use similar technologies.
We do not use advertising cookies, and we do not sell personal information.
9. Children's Privacy
HanDa is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that a child under 13 has provided personal information, we will delete it promptly.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes via email or in-app notification. Continued use of HanDa after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
