Korean grammar · Level 1

N(으)로 하다

Quick answer: N(으)로 하다 means go with N — choosing one option.

How to form it

No final consonant or ㄹ → 로 하다 · final consonant → 으로 하다 · 이거 → 이걸로

In Korean: 받침 X·ㄹ → 로 하다 받침 O → 으로 하다 이거 → 이걸로

What to know

This is the same (으)로 you used for transport in 10-1 — by this means. When choosing, 이것으로 shortens to 이걸로 in speech, and that is what you will hear in shops.

Examples

  • 이걸로 주세요.
    I'll take this one.
  • 검은색으로 할까요?
    Shall we go with black?
  • 카드로 할게요.
    I'll pay by card.
