Korean grammar · Level 1

안 -

Quick answer: 안 - means not — put it in front of the verb.

How to form it

안 + verb · 안 가요 · with 하다 verbs it goes before 하다: 공부 안 해요

In Korean: 안 + 동사 안 가요 공부 안 해요

What to know

안 goes right before the verb. With 하다 verbs it slides inside — 공부해요 becomes 공부 안 해요, not 안 공부해요. This one trips up almost everyone, so say it aloud until it feels normal.

Examples

  • 오늘 학교에 안 가요.
I'm not going to school today.
  • 밥을 안 먹어요.
